An Anthro Outfit Welcome

I've decided to channel my latest job and create a complete "Misha" outfit from Anthropologie. I've tried on both the blouse and the jeans and I'm 100% positive that these photos do NOT do the pieces justice. Especially that blouse. FYI...Those are snails, not clouds.

Mermaid Scale Tiles

First, I should address my hiatus.  Many things have happened in the last 2+ weeks which made it impossible for me to blog.

For a return with a pow, I've gathered some ah-mazing photos of "mermaid" scale tiles!!!! We're going to call them that because I don't care for living fish. One day I'll have a bathroom inspired by a mermaid!

An Office Fit for a MAN

DBR & I watched Man Caves the other night and I couldn't help but think that most "man spaces" could aesthetically use a woman's touch (men with any sort of affiliation to design not included in this generalization). With that in mind, I've created an office fit for a man!

Done by Rudi de Wet, this was certainly a labor of love. Although I wouldn't pick this for myself, it's definitely something to appreciate. Right?!

Party Poster, Ep. 18

I am seriously drooling over this poster! I have a serious crush on the national park posters that this is modeled after, and that is why I LOVE this one! High five to the Jon Reese, the graphic designer AND the couple who decided they wanted their invite to look like a vintage national park poster!

The Spirit Bear

I am officially putting this on my bucket list...I want to see a spirit bear, aka Kermode bear, in nature! Funny that I decided I liked them recently because National Geographic is doing a piece on them, this month! Here are some excellent shots of these majestic creatures by wildlife photographer, Paul Nicklen! This dude is living the life!

Levi's Legacy Campaign

Utilizing "The Laughing Heart," Levi's has created a nice little commercial. Looking forward to this popping up on the boob tube. Which makes me wonder, do you think there's a channel out there dedicated to design???

You'll be salivating while watching the opening frame! This food looks so tasty! The Marlin Network has quite the vision. I wonder how many cameras they had capture all that stuff flying?

Weekend Recap: Summer Chef Series Week 3

I hope everyone did something fun this weekend. I was really wishing I was up in Seattle for Seafair! All you PNWers, I am jealous! But luckily I had a relatively productive weekend. I found a coupon online for the Birkam North Scottsdale studio, which I wasted no time printing off and using. $30 for unlimited use for a month! Smokin' deal if you ask me. Anyway, I then worked at the Summer Chef Series at the Phoenix Public Market, where I actually got to prepare the plates in the back! Seriously delicious food made by Chrysa Robertson  of Ranch Pinot. 4 salads including: Grilled Beef Salad, Grilled Butternut-Lentil Salad (my favorite), Watermelon-Cucumber Salad, and Shaved Summer Squash Salad;  One tasty dessert: Panna Cotta w/ Lemon Vermena.

 Stuffing my face post class!

Thierry Mugler "Star" Campaign: Behind the Scenes

I've always thought Michael Legrand was a genius, especially creating the uber romantic masterpiece, The Windmills Of Your Mind. But WOW. This version with the full orchestra is quite nice too. Her voice with the orchestra together is pure magic. Thierry Mugler is so smart to have a someone not only be the face for the campaign but also the voice! Who would've guessed Eva Mendes had lovely vocal chords?!

Weekend Recap: Fresh Flowers and Fiestas

Saturday morning we moseyed on over to the Phoenix Farmers Market to pick up some flowers, for a (fiesta themed) graduation party. Turns out, we struck it big, with these AMAZING fresh flowers from Maya's Farm! The gals, working the stall, were so nice, they gave us a water bucket to store our flowers in. I also picked up a couple of beautiful small eggplants and red potatoes from Maya's.
I am so pleased that the turnout, both vendors and customers, is visibly expanding on Saturdays, down at the market! The only downside to Saturday was that we were way too stuffed from breakfast at Matt's Big Breakfast, we didn't get a chance to sample anything from the market!

Cooking Class w/ Tudie

This past weekend, DBR & I went to one of my favorite spots in Phoenix, the Phoenix Public Market. They are hosting the Summer Chef Series, which is put on by Local First Arizona and Devour! Our star chef of the day was owner Tudie of D'licious Dishes.  We cooked up a mean meal!

The tables had the most beautiful local flowers!

Popcorn Crawfish Salad w/ Honey Chipotle Vinaigarette

Achiote Grilled Chicken Breast & Cucumber Melon Salsa (aka salad)

Vanilla Crepes filled with Crow's Dairy Butter-Pecan Goat Cheese topped with Carmel Sauce

Here are a couple of the standout recipes from the class!

Thinker: Dinner Party Guests

If you were to host a dinner party, who would you invite? (living)

Characteristics of my possible guests should possess are captivating stories, some sort of unique talent which = I would learn something from them. After thinking about this long and hard, I came up with a handful, of some of the most interesting people around:

  1. Alice Waters  (Chef & the mother of fresh/ local food movement)
  2. Mia Michaels (Dancer & Choreographer)
  3. Al Green (Singer)
  4. Keith Johnson (Global shopper)
  5. Bill Cunningham (fashion photographer)
  6. The Morning Benders : Chris Chu, Jon Chu, Julian Harmon & Tim Or (Band)
  7. Brad Goreski (stylist)
  8. Carsten Peter (National Geographic photographer)
  9. Kristi Yamaguchi (Olympian, My hero!)
  10. Andy Spade (designer, total genius)

Party Poster, Ep. 14

Not entirely sure if there is anything as aesthetically tingling as some well done letterpress. This poster, by Christine Park, is simple and memorable. I'm in letterpress overdrive because I am about to get some sweet sweet business cards designed by the lovey local ladies at Seesaw Designs.
